» Proclaim Signals

What are Signals?

  • Proclaim sends information to your congregation’s mobile devices via Signals. Each service item lets you add Signals, which can include contact information, Scripture references, web links, or donation requests.

How to add Signals:

  • For Bible service items, Signals are automatically created for the reference you enter.
  • For all service items, Signals can be added by going to the “Signals” tab.
  • Signals are created per service item, not per slide.
  • You can create any of the following types of Signals:
    • Bible reference: navigates users to the Bible reference
    • Calendar event: brings up a calendar event that allows users to add event to their mobile calendar
    • Contact card: brings up a populated entry that allows users to add the contact information to their mobile contacts
    • Donation request: brings up a populated PayPal page
    • Logos reference: navigates users to a Logos resource location
    • Web address: opens a web page

How to follow Signals:

1) In the Proclaim application, your presentation must have the location set to the correct address. The address is located in a dropdown menu on the main toolbar. This is the location where your Signals will be broadcast.

2) In the mobile app (the Faithlife Study Bible, for example), set the “Follow presentations” option to “On.” This is located in the tools menu under “Presentations.”

3) If you’ve never followed a presentation by a particular group before, you will also want to have “Ask to follow nearby” set to “On.” This will ensure that when the presentation goes On Air, the mobile app will ask you if you want to follow it.

Once you’ve followed a presentation by a particular group, they will be placed in the “Proclaim groups” list. In the future, whenever a presentation from that group goes On Air, you will automatically start to follow it. If you no longer wish to automatically follow presentations by that group, you can tap the group name and select “Forget this group.”

4) If you are still unable to see the Signals or presentation, ensure that you have location services turned on for your phone. You can also check that your device is at the same location specified on your presentation by opening the maps app and making sure the locator pin is at the same location as in the Proclaim application.

» Survey Service Items

  • You can conduct live surveys On Air by adding a survey service item and having your congregation respond using their mobile devices.

Creating a new survey service item

  • Once you’ve added a new survey service item from the “Add” menu, you can begin to fill in your question and the possible responses.
  • When you have entered at least two possible responses, a Signal will automatically be created.
  • To customize the survey’s appearance, you can choose from three different themes (minimal, natural, or simple), and select between a light- or dark-colored slide.

Responding to a survey

  • In order to respond to the survey, users must be following the presentation using the Logos Bible or Faithlife Study Bible app.
  • When the survey appears On Air, a Signal will appear in the mobile app, with buttons that users can tap to submit their response.
  • A user may change their response by tapping a different button.
  • The survey Signal will disappear from the Signals bar in the mobile app once you navigate away from the survey service item. However, if a user wishes, they can scroll back in the Signals bar to return to the survey Signal, and can continue to submit or change their response throughout the presentation.

Displaying survey results

  • You can display the results as a horizontal bar chart, a vertical bar chart, or a pie chart. As you are editing your survey, you can see a preview of the slide with some sample results.
  • You may choose to display live results on the same survey slide, or to display the results in a separate survey-results service item.

Survey-results service item

  • You can add a survey-results service item anywhere in your presentation after a survey service item. It does not need to immediately follow a survey service item.
  • In order for the results to display on this service item, you will have to uncheck the “Show live results on this slide” box on the corresponding survey service item.

» Song Service Items

Creating a new song service item

  • If you want to use a song that is already in your library, just start typing part of the title into the “Title” field. A dropdown will appear that lists all matches in your library, in your CCLI SongSelect library (if you have linked your CCLI account), and in the Logos.com hymn base. Click on any title to automatically populate your song service Item.

  • If you want to import a song, you can do that in one of two ways.
    • You can import a song from the drop-down menu on your account name by clicking “Import songs.” This will import the song into your library, but will not populate your current song service item. Once imported, search for the song and manually add it to your song service item.

  • You can import a song by clicking “File” on the song service Item. This will immediately populate your song service item, as well as add the song to your library.

Customizing the formatting of your song service item

  • To customize your song service item, click “Customize” on the right.
  • Note that you have two different types of slides to customize (and two formatting ratios for each).
    • The song slide customizes the style for the lyrics slides.
    • The title slide customizes the style for title slide. You will have a title slide if you select “Title slide” from either the “Show title” or “Show credits” drop-down options on the “Lyrics” tab.

Custom verse order

  • You will see a text box above the lyrics area that contains labels for the parts of your song, such as:
    • Chorus
    • Pre-chorus
    • Bridge
    • Verse # (i.e. Verse 1)

  • You can customize the order that these parts appear by typing the labels into the text field.
    • For example: Verse 1, Pre-chorus, Chorus 1, Verse 2
  • You can also use abbreviations for the labels.
    • You can see these abbreviations by looking at the timeline ribbon along the top of the window.
    • For example: 1, P, C, 2
  • If you decide you don’t want that custom order and would prefer to have the lyrics display in the order they appear in the lyrics field, just uncheck the box next to the custom-order field.

Dynamic verse display while On Air

  • If you are On Air and want to immediately switch to a particular verse, you can do this using hotkeys.
    • For example, if you want to go to the Chorus, just press the “C” key. To go to Verse 1, just press the “1” key.
  • If you’re unsure of the specific hotkeys, you can see the key for each slide by looking at the service item in the timeline ribbon along the top of the window.

» Video Service Items

  • You can add video from a file on your computer, or from content already in your library.

Adding a video file from your computer

  • You can add a file from your computer by clicking “File.”

  • When you add a file from your computer, you can choose to upload and sync to your group or keep the file local to your computer.
    • If you keep the file local to your computer, you won’t be able to view it on other computers or with the Proclaim remote app.
  • When adding a file, you can choose to include a tag. This will make it easier to find the video again in your content section.

Adding videos from your Proclaim library

  • You can filter the videos in your library by typing tags or other search terms into the “Find” field.

  • Select the video you want to add by clicking on it, and then clicking the “Add” link.

Video size limit for uploading and syncing (per file limit of 200MB: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/44420.aspx)

  • There is a 200MB size limit for each video upload. If you have a larger video, you can select “Local file only” in the file-upload window.

Want to insert a web video? Learn how on the web-page service item page.

Video not working?

  • One common scenario in which a user’s videos will not play in Proclaim is when the user has third-party codecs installed on their machine. Proclaim does not support third-party codecs, such as 3ivx. You will want to uninstall these codecs to play your videos.

» Bible Service Items

  • You can select which Bible translation you want the verse text to pull from by choosing from the four choices displayed at the top, or by clicking the “More” link and selecting from the drop-down menu.
    • The Bible drop-down menu displays all the Bibles available—both those you own and those available on Biblia.com.
  • A Signal will be automatically created for the reference you enter.

» Image Slideshow Service Items

  • You can add images by clicking “Add images.”
  • You can add images from files on your computer or from content already in your library.

Adding image files from your computer

  • When you add a file from your computer, you can choose to upload and sync to your group or to keep the file local to your computer.
    • If you keep the file local to your computer, you won’t be able to view it on other computers or with the Proclaim remote app.
  • When adding a file, you can choose to include a tag. This will make it easier to find the image again in your content section.

Adding image files from your Proclaim library

  • You can filter the images in your library by typing tags or other search terms into the “Find” field.
  • Select the images you want to add by clicking on them, then clicking “Add.”

» Web Page Service Items

Previous/next toolbar

  • For web-page service items, a toolbar appears when you move your mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen.
  • You can manually click “Previous” or “Next” on this toolbar to navigate away from the web-page service item if the focus has been taken by the web page (meaning you can no longer navigate using the arrow keys).

Web-page items and full screen video

You can embed web videos into the presentation through YouTube or Vimeo; each site allows customization of the video URLs that will display full-screen videos and enable autoplay.

YouTube video URL formatting

  • Normal: youtube.com/watch?v={video ID}
    • For example: youtube.com/watch?v=6BU5ZKK-_jU
  • Full screen: youtube.com/v/{video ID}
    • For example: youtube.com/v/6BU5ZKK-_jU
  • Enable Autoplay: youtube.com/v/{video ID}&autoplay=1
    • For example: youtube.com/v/6BU5ZKK-_jU&autoplay=1

Vimeo video URL formatting

  • Normal: vimeo.com/{video ID}
    • For example: vimeo.com/38514156
  • Full screen: player.vimeo.com/video/{video ID}
    • For example: player.vimeo.com/video/38514156

Installing Flash:
You may experience an issue where you are told you need Flash to play the video, even if you have Flash installed (especially on Windows). Some browsers, like Google Chrome, include a version of Flash that is only usable from inside Chrome.

  • Once Flash is installed, you should be able to play Flash content from inside Proclaim.

Recognized complications:

  • Full-screen Vimeo videos work well with Windows, but full-screen YouTube videos (using the format “youtube.com/v/video ID”) do not.
  • On a Windows machine, insert a normal-format YouTube video (using the format “youtube.com/watch?v=video ID”), then manually make the video full screen.
    • Note: this video will go full screen in your primary monitor (which may not necessarily be the monitor currently outputting slides).

» PowerPoint Service Items

Import Powerpoint slides

  • If you have a PowerPoint presentation you want to use within Proclaim, you can import it from the “Add item” menu.
  • Importing a PowerPoint presentation will convert each slide to an image, so you will lose any animations or other effects.

Drive from PowerPoint (Windows only)

  • If you are on Windows and have PowerPoint installed, you also have the option of transferring control to PowerPoint.
    • Note that for PowerPoint-driven items, the PowerPoint presentation will not be uploaded and synced, but will remain local to your computer.

» Audio

Adding audio to service items

  • To add audio to any service item, click the audio icon in the audio column to the right of the service item.
  • You can add from audio items already in your Proclaim library, or from an MP3 file on your computer.
  • You can choose to upload and sync the audio item—which will make it available when you sync your presentation on other computers—or choose to keep the file local only.
    • If you choose “Local only,” when you view the presentation on a different computer, a yellow triangle icon will appear in your playlist for that audio track, and no audio will play.
  • Audio will continue to play through subsequent service items until it hits either another audio item or a “Stop audio” cue.

Adding audio to service sections

  • To add audio to a service section (such as the “Service” or the “Pre-service loop”), click the audio icon in the audio column next to the section header.
  • Audio will continue to play through the service section until it hits either another audio item or a “Stop audio” cue.

Different icons are displayed for different audio states:

  1. Grey speaker icon with no volume bars: indicates that no audio is playing for this service item
  2. Bright-green speaker icon: there is an audio item attached to this service item
  3. Dark-green speaker icon: there is no audio item attached to this service item, but an earlier audio item is continuing to play through this service item
  4. Red speaker icon: stop audio cue (audio stops here)
  5. Bright-green play icon: video service item

» Proclaim Remote App

  • The Proclaim remote app is a mobile app that allows you to drive your presentation from your smartphone or tablet.
  • On a smartphone, you will see a series of slides that you can tap to advance the presentation.
  • On a tablet, you have four views: normal, notes, full screen, and text only.

» General/Other

Import Planning Center Online services

  • You can import your existing Planning Center Online service plans. Proclaim pulls in the outline, text for content service items, notes, and songs. However, it doesn’t pull any media. The purpose of the Planning Center Online import functionality is to import the basic outline and content into Proclaim, where you can take over and add media and further customizations.

How do licenses work?

  • Licenses are purchased by an individual, but they belong to the group. Even if the individual who originally purchased the license leaves the group, the group will retain the license.

Multimonitor

  • In the settings drop-down menu, you have the ability to assign different output feeds to different monitors.
  • There are three different types of output feeds available:
    • Slides: These are the slides from your presentation. You can only assign slides to one output feed.
    • Confidence: This is a white-on-black simple text rendering of your slides’ content.
    • Notes: This is a white-on-black text output of your notes for each service item.

Elements: pre-service loop, warm-up, service, post-service loop

  • The pre-service loop will repeat continually until it’s time for your service to start.
  • Just before your service starts, the warm-up will play.
  • At the time you’ve specified for the start of your service, your service elements will begin.
  • The post-service loop will begin once your service is finished, and will repeat until you go off air.

Start time

  • If you don’t have a pre-service loop or warm-up, you’ll get a countdown screen that counts down to the start of your service.

» FAQs

I want to see a new feature in Proclaim. Where can I suggest that?

  • We have a UserVoice page for Proclaim requests. Please visit http://proclaim.uservoice.com/ to create feature requests and vote for existing requests you’d like to see in Proclaim.

Why am I losing my customization when I choose a new background?

  • Proclaim was designed to remove the need for constant tweaking and customization. The idea is that is that our designers could select the most attractive fonts, colors, and sizes to fit each background, and users could quickly and easily change backgrounds and have the text alter to match.

There does appear to be a greater demand for the ability to manually tweak things for each slide than originally anticipated. We will be looking at ways to offer easier customization on a per-slide basis in the future.

Can I have different slides going to different monitors?

  • Currently, we only allow one slide output. You can have as many confidence or notes outputs as you like, but only one slide output.

How can I copy and paste service items from one presentation to another?

  • In the “Add item” menu, there is a “Reuse items” area where you can use service items from other presentations. Use the filter search field to look for specific service items.

Can I create a template to use for all of my presentations?

  • There is no way to create a traditional template in Proclaim right now. However, you can right click (PC) or Option+click (Mac) on a previous service in the “Open” menu and choose “Duplicate” from the menu that appears. Then you can tweak what has changed from the previous service and not have to create everything from scratch.

Can I assign different levels of access to different users in my group? For example, can I give “read only” access to some users, and “read and edit” access to others?

  • No—all users in the group can edit the presentation.

Why isn’t my video working?

  • One common scenario in which a user’s videos will not play in Proclaim is when the user has third-party codecs installed on their machine. Proclaim does not support third-party codecs, such as 3ivx. You will want to uninstall these codecs to play your videos.

Can I use Proclaim without an Internet connection?

  • Yes, you can use Proclaim without an Internet connection. However, without an Internet connection, you will not be able to download and sync your presentation. Therefore, you will want to ensure that you have completely synced up your presentation on your computer when you do have Internet available, so that the media is downloaded and stored locally on your computer.

» Purchasing Licenses in Proclaim

Explanation of licenses

Proclaim offers access to three main types of licenses. While Proclaim is free to download and use, an account with no licenses will display the Proclaim watermark when used in live-presentation mode. The following licenses are available to enable you to create the best presentations possible.

On Air license

A Proclaim On Air license removes the Proclaim watermark from presentations when in use at your church. It does not require any other licenses in order to work, but does not give you the greatest access to creative content for your presentations. On Air licenses are available for purchase through your Proclaim account in annual and monthly subscriptions.

Media license

A media license gives all members of a single Proclaim group access to a graphics library of backgrounds for use in presentations. Without an On Air license, any content accessed through your media license will still display the Proclaim watermark when used in live-presentation mode. Media licenses are available for purchase through your Proclaim account by annual subscription. If you have an existing media license through a third-party company such as Graceway Media, you can import your license information in setup wizard during the installation process.

Third-party licenses

Proclaim allows you to integrate your existing licenses from parties such as CCLI SongSelect and Planning Center Online. Third-party licenses are purchased independently of Proclaim and Logos Bible Software but are fully accessible when creating your presentations in Proclaim. Licenses can be integrated in the setup wizard during the installation process.

For more information about Proclaim licenses and usage see our terms and conditions.
